Alex Award

Alex Converse,10th grade, placed second in the Voice of Democracy essay scholarship contest, a national competition sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) that encourages students to reflect on democratic values through an original essay and recorded speech.

Alex’s entry stood out among numerous submissions for its emphasis on how he shows his patriotism and civic responsibility every day. 

As a second-place winner at the local level, Alex received a $75 check and recognition from the VFW.

“It was very interesting meeting the other contestants,” Alex said. “One was from Colorado Springs and the other Aurora. It was fun!”

The Voice of Democracy program has been held annually since 1947 and continues to promote student voices on important democratic principles. Alex’s achievement reflects both academic commitment and meaningful civic engagement.
